Intro:Age Enlightenment would be a period in European history when individuals thought that by using reason and rationality all of the problems of human society might be solved. Just like

Newton had used science to describe the world, the thinkers from the Enlightenment, known as philosophes or “lovers of wisdom”, wished to apply need to human society. They thought that individuals were rational which society was perfectible if it is people were free, equal, and adopted the laws and regulations that governed human society.
Essential Question: What were the values from the philosophes?
Activity:
1. Students is going to do the philosophe quotes activity where they'll take a look at some quotes, paraphrase them, and then try to determine who stated each.
